The video leak of national soccer team striker Hwang Eui-jo (Norwich City)'s private life has taken a shocking turn.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Department's Cybercrime Investigation Team sent Hwang's brother-in-law, A, to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on June 22 on suspicion of threatening him after he posted a video exposing Hwang's personal life.

Hwang Ui-jo became the center of controversy in June when a private video was leaked. An unidentified person shared photos and videos of Hwang Ui-jo and women on Instagram. The person reportedly threatened to circulate the videos, and the women in the videos claimed that Hwang had taken them without their consent.

According to police, Hwang Ui-jo's brother-in-law, Mr. A, is the person who shared the photos and videos of Hwang Ui-jo on Instagram in June, which is a crime under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act.

Mr. A is also suspected of sending threatening messages to Hwang Ui-jo since May, stating that he would "distribute (the photos)," "look forward to it," and "it will be fun when it is released" (threatening to use filmed material).

The police dismissed Mr. A's charges of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act as being without merit.

The police explained that this was due to the fact that Hwang's side said that he did not want to be punished during the suspect interrogation (warrant substantive examination) before A's detention on the 16th. Defamation is a semi-punishable offense that cannot be punished if the victim does not want it.

Police arrested A on March 13 and detained him three days later on March 16.

Hwang Ui-jo is under police investigation for filming the other person having sex (filming with a camera or other device under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act).

In the meantime, public opinion on the Hwang Ui-jo video case has criticized him. As a star player in the national team, he was morally condemned for not only filming the women's private lives without their consent, but also for making the videos public. 온라인카지노

However, the revelation that the person who had been threatening Hwang Ui-jo was his brother's wife, Hyung-soo, shocked everyone who followed the case. It's possible that she secretly took the video from Hwang's phone and used it to blackmail him for money.

Meanwhile, Hwang Ui-jo was selected to the national soccer team and made a substitute appearance in the away match against China in Shenzhen, China, in the second Asian qualifying round for the 2026 North American Football Confederations Cup.

In an official interview after the game on the 21st, national team coach Jürgen Klinsmann was asked why he fielded the controversial Hwang Ui-jo, who is under police investigation, and replied, "Until the allegations are clear, it's just a process. We don't know right now that he's in trouble or that he's a criminal. Until the allegations are clarified, it's the role of a leader to help players perform well."

Klinsmann added: "In my 40 years of soccer, there have always been incidents and speculation. Until there is something definitive, I hope that players like Hwang Ui-jo, who have a lot to offer, will play and score goals."
